Turkish Ceramics Promotion Group Hosts Six Leading Architectural Firms of England in İstanbul

Turkish Ceramics Promotion Group hosted six leading British architectural firms in Istanbul between 21-24 November 2013 as a part of the ‘Kiosk’ project with the Architects’ Journal (AJ). The visit took place on the occasion of the Westanbul Eastanbul Architectural Weekend held for the second time this year. 

During the visit held with the participation Mr. Rory Olcayto, acting editor of the Architects’ Journal, the architects examined the kiosks - water fountains evolving from the Ottoman architecture to this day and the historical ceramics used in those structures. The trip also gave them the opportunity to become closely acquainted with the contemporary ceramics and sanitary ware sector in Turkey. 

Following presentations given by Mr. Ali Onat Türker and Mr. Gökhan Karakuş at Salt Galata on the history of Turkish Architecture and the history of Turkish ceramics, the participants, accompanied by Ms. Nisa Semiz, examined the traditional buildings dating from the Ottoman period and visited ceramics production plants.

Contemporary ‘kiosk’ design concepts by Zaha Hadid Architects, AHMM, Eric Parry Architects, Studio Weave, Adam Architecture and Hopkins Architects will be presented to for the design world of London to appreciate during a one-month exhibition to be held in February 2014 at the Building Centre.
