This year Turkishceramics will be present at Bologna Water Design September 22 to 27 - an innovative exhibition organised with the eminent Architects' Journal, celebrating the Ottoman style which inspired some of the world's most talented architects, including Zaha Hadid Architects, Hopkins Architects, Eric Parry Architects, Adam Architecture, Studio Weave and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. The architects were challenged to design a drinking water disposing structure that incorporates ceramics and considers the architectural history of the kiosk.
The Kiosk project was first exhibited in London between February and March 2014. The definition of the word ‘kiosk’, originating in Turkey during the Ottoman period as a garden "gazebo" has been transformed over time. During the late 17th century, the kiosks were offered by the Sultan to distribute free clean water to all citizens. They consisted of self-supporting structures in marble, often decorated with precious ceramic tiles. For this project, the architects were invited to reinterpret the structure of the kiosk for the London in the 21st century.
On September 24, at 16:30, Rory Olcayto, Acting Editor of The Architects'Journal and creative director of the project Kiosk, will hold a seminar on "Kicking the bottle", with architects who participated in the Kiosk project. (The presentation will be in English with Italian translation). A drinks reception will follow the discussion.
For the seventh year, a free concert of Turkish music will be held in the charming stage of Piazza Maggiore. Kerem Görsev Trio – a Turkish group known all over the world - and the famous percussionist Ayhan Sicimoğlu, will play accompanied by the extraordinary singer Suami Ramirez, creating a unique atmosphere with the special blend of jazz and Latin music. (Free Bus shuttles from Cersaie to Piazza Maggiore, from 18:00 - Michelino entrance)
The concert is coordinated by Bees Communication in Bologna, a communication agency which has coordinated the promotion and hospitality of the event since the first edition. The Kiosk project is coordinated from the UK by ING Media, a communication agency specialising in architecture, design and urban regeneration.
